Fate Eternal

So with my main character, I made some changes to him, quite a lot actually!

Here's a sneaky peak at what's changed.

Also he's still a work in progress, hoping to get his body finished off today!

More updates to come!

Website!

It's all getting there now, I finally see things coming together.

With that here's the link to the new website!

Enjoy!

BioWare!

You know how a few posts ago I said it was probably very unlikely that you have never played an EA game? Well, that's still true. Which brings me to a company called BioWare. They are in fact owned by Electronic Arts, but still operate as an independent company somewhat, with the freedom to make their own styled games.

So with that, they did make one of my favourite franchises ever! Mass effect!

As well as many other games to boot like, Balders gate, Dragon Age and some of the Star Wars franchises. Founded in 1995, Canada. The company specialise in role-playing games. My favourite genre. Why would I work here? The style and narratives they produce are some of the most attractive things I've ever seen/played/loved. I love the in depth conversations you can have with characters and the character customisation is brilliant, and would simply love to be part of the team that creates these games.

I would be so proud if I could sit there and say I made that game because I am a proud employee of Bioware. Also they live in Canada, who does not want to live in Canada? Seriously. But they do have other studios, in case you didn't want to live in Canada, not that I can think why you wouldn't want to live there...

Dan Luvisi

I've literally just thought, I forgot to say who my other influential artist was. His name is Dan Luvisi.

Luvisi is a digital concept artist working in the film, video game and comic book industry. And my word, is this man good!

I don't quite know what it is, but his colour work is phenomenal, it's that gloss feel he manages to create in his paintings, the blood seems slimy and the eyes really shimmer. It's just amazing!

I also like the fact that he brings a lot of 2d icons into a more styalised 3d feel. A gritty realness of what was known as innocent and comical. It's a fascinating portrayal.

I hope you go one to explore some of his work!

Later!

Electronic Arts.

So in my list of places, spaces and uhhh... Well just that really, I find myself at the doorstop of EA. Electronic Arts.

With headquarters in Redwood, California. But studios around the world. They came in as the third largest games company in the world! Not to mention the sheer amount of titles they have under their belt.

Ranging from the Battlefield series, Crysis, Command and Conquer, FIFA, Madden, Sims, the list is endless!

You have to admit there's few people who haven't enjoyed an EA game and there's even fewer that have never played one!

If I'm honest, I can't get enough of them! I think I'd jump through loops and hoops for a job offer from these guys, I'd take tea girl, genuine. I'd love to work on the Sims especially, mainly because I love props, I could sit for years making endless chairs, carpets, ornaments and plants for that game or any EA game to be fair. I'd also like to do environments and characters, but I want to prove to myself and others first, wouldn't want to let the team down!

Somebody who inspires me.

So across the internets there are times where you stumble across things that change your perspective and influence you to push yourself further with the things you love doing.

I stumbled across something almost a year ago. His name was Sam Spratt. He's kind of a big deal. Massive in fact. I find it strange that it took me so long to find him. But nevermind!

His work is fabulous!

In fact he is the magic behind the immensely popular app game, Angry Birds.

Here is some of his artwork!

I really love the textures in his work, he uses a really nice looking brush and he gets amazing results with it, but he's also really open about how he goes creates his work, which is great for people like me, who really need a helping hand with our own digital work.

Spratt is a hero to me!

Ciao!

Another Place, Another Time?

So on my list of places to go and see, we come to another studio. This time of course, it's Rockstar Games.

Why here you say? Well of course why not! They have been the driving force behind some of my most loved games. From Midnight club, Red Dead, Grand Theft Auto and Max Payne. But also The Warriors! A film I adore.

However it's not just the games they create, it's the passion and personality they put into their games and the artistic direction they wield that really suckers me in. From the beginning I've always collected the posters that came with game, often littering my bedroom with them. I still can't get enough now!

For some context, Rockstar founded in 1998, with headquarters based in New York, as well as many other studio's situated around the world, you'll find some in Leeds, Lincoln, London and Edinburgh.

They are known for the controversial material in some of their games. The company is owned by Take Two Interactive.

More coming soon!

Sneak Preview!

Naughty Dog - A beginning.

Why I'm a Game Artist.

From a young age, and I mean like, 4... I loved video games, in fact I was obsessed! It all started with a little game that became a huge franchise, Crash Bandicoot. In fact when I was little I even had a Crash Bandicoot T-Shirt, which I rarely took off because lets be honest, who would?

It was my first awakening to a new world, a world of video games, something that has stayed me with my whole life and no doubt will continue.

Naughty Dog was my first taste of something that is now my passion.

Although originally starting in 1984, things really kicked off in 1994, when they released Crash Bandicoot. A game that has sold to date 22 million copies worldwide. Naughty Dog is also a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Not only have they dominated the Playstation 1 market, but have continued their success through the following consoles. With hits like Jak & Daxter on the PS2 and then Uncharted on PS3, with 'The Last of Us' sweeping over 200 Game of The Year awards and now set to be digitally re-mastered for the PS4.

I know, I may have never ended up where I am without Naughty Dog. The chance to work for them though, would be an honour, to be able to give back something that inspired me many years ago knowing that someone somewhere will play a game I helped bring to life, that's something I dream for.

I hope you enjoyed 'A What Inspired Me' post.

John Hurt Colour Wash!

So here we finally are! My portrait of John Hurt, finally got around to the colour wash for him.

I'm sorry it's been a bit slow with the blogging, seems to be the story of my life!

But I hope you guys like it! overall it probably took me about 4 hours to do the colour wash, mainly because I am trying out a few more techniques, which seem to be having a better effect on my work.

So all in all I actually really enjoyed this painting mainly because it's the best one I've done so far but also the fact that when I review all my previous work I can see that I am getting better in leaps and bounds!

So without further ado! Here we are;

So as you can see this is my first finished digital portrait of the actor John Hurt.

There is of course still a lot of tweaking to do, but I'm really happy with the outcome as it proves to me that with patience and practice, you can do what you love to do, and slowly become good at it.

There will of course be more portraits to come, and I'll look to sort out any flaws and in general edge ever nearer to my goal of being an accomplished portrait artist!

Until next time guys!

Where would I like to go?

So I've been thinking about what inspires me. Which companies? What games? Characters?

And one popped to mind. Massive, a Ubisoft studio.

They are currently working on Tom Clancy's 'The Division' using their own next gen engine called SnowDrop.

They are a company based in Sweden, Malmo to be precise and some of their past games include; Assassins Creed Revelations, Far Cry 3 and Ground Control.

I absolutely love the way they work with their teams to create inspiring games, so for me, this is one place I'd really love to end up! It's a very relaxed atmosphere but at the same time motivated and challenging to get the results they want. Something I really try my best to adhere to.

I'm really looking forward to their latest game, 'The Division' as I'm a huge fan of Tom Clancy and I know they've done him justice with this new engine they've built.

Quick Update - Fate Eternal

So I'm finally back to my model/character.

I've been busy with the union and had lots of meetings and what nots to sort out! Eesh. But we'll get there, I promise!

So here's a little render, yes some things have changed. They are going to rapidly change over the next few days, I haven't had much time to sit and roll this out due to other deadlines etc. So now my mission is to get this project moving again, and quickly.

So he looks a bit funny, I realise this...

And there are of course gaps in it, at the moment I'm just putting him together again, I'm not keen on the legs so I might just thin them down to give a more sleek effect.

Also his knee pads are floating. I haven't got that far yet.

There will be a mass of updates almost everyday now! As I boulder my way through my projects and hit deadline time.

Gird your loins.

Some Little things

So deadline next Tuesday! (1st April) Animation business.

Currently panicking. A little bit.

And with the arrival of a new lecturer who isn't very helpful, things are getting a bit, well... slow.

So without further ado. Here's an update of where I am :)

Fate Eternal: Character - Modelled, although he's going through some re-tweaking (I say re-tweaking, actually I just deleted most of the components I didn't like and decided to just start again. Y.O.L.O) and he's semi textured! Well, I just got bored of the grey. Also I realise he's missing half a body, but don't worry folks, Keep Calm and Duplicate special ;)

I also realise the amount of colours I've got on his body, so maybe I rebelled against the grey? #SorrynotSorry. #OrganisedMess?

A Life in Venice: Environment Sculpt thingy - Currently doing the house now getting those pesky windows in, and pot plants. My word, I love pot plants. I have no photo to show you, I promise I'll post you one later :3

Digital Portraits: Currently had to leave my portraits for now, as I haven't had the time for everything, and I know I can complete them quite quickly, which yes, is not my main goal, I'd like to actually be good at peoples faces, not just quick. Quality over the quantity!

Crystal Clear: All the work has gone to Angharad for now, just modelled and unwrapped, will help later on that when needed, but for now I'm focusing mainly on my Animation Business Module and Character.

So to recap, life is still on the move! And i'm not dead. I just keep forgetting to post to my blog! Gahh!
